WormWood
by the Woodbox Gang
Their lyrics are dark, and the music toe tapping & happy, almost like a Dios de los Muertos, or, Day of the Dead celebration. "Wormwood," the latest offering from the Illinois-based band, Woodbox Gang definitely puts the "Alternative" in "Alternative Country!" It sounds as if Edgar Allen Poe himself has guided the pen of Woodbox Gang to craft their unique sound. Their style is almost reminiscent of 80's pop band Oingo Boingo, crossed with They Might Be Giants, and their tunes just as catchy!
This is a band that makes music for themselves, not giving a shit if you like it or not, and you have to tip your hat to that. Those of you that are a bit thin-skinned may find the lyrics to some of their songs offensive, but it takes a lot to offend me, and I had no problem with it, in fact I found myself singing along to track # 15 "If I Had My Druthers" while stuck in traffic! Listen to it with an open mind and ear. The Woodbox Gang is an "all or nothing" band, in that you will either love them or hate them. I loved them! There is no middle ground.
Woodbox Gang is a fun new sound in Americana music, mixing folksy fiddling to washboard rubbin banjo bangin bluegrass. They have been Beer Bytch approved for your listening pleasure. Check out at their website for more info!
