Mexican Food
Los Vaqueros - Fort Worth Stockyards
- Serving up authentic Mexican food to the rich, famous, and regular
folks for decades. Great Mexican Food
Pulido's - Ft. Worth/Arlington - couple of locations - small family owned and
operated.
Mi' Tierra - San Antonio's Market Square. It is NOT a trip to San Antonio unless you've eaten here.
Barbeque
Rudy's - locations in Austin and San Antonio - best combination Gas
Station / B-B-Q places in Texas
Spring Creek - Locations all over the DFW area.
David's BBQ - As Texas and Down Home as it gets. Located in Pantego.
Home Cookin'
Massey's - Ft. Worth. Famous for Chicken Fried Steak.
Babe's
- Garland,
TX Famous for Chicken, & Chicken Fried Steak & all the
veggies you can eat!
Seafood
Texas has well over 600 miles of coastline so you know you're gonna find plenty of great Seafood. Here's just a few suggestions.
Gaido's - Galveston. Located right on the seawall
on the Island. Voted one of the top 25 seafood restaurants in American - let
alone Texas. Pricey but always good. They do some interesting things with
fresh Texas seafood.
Sea Island - San Antonio, 2 locations. Family owned/operated, and the grilled shrimp is the best!
Hills Pier 19 - Nothin fancy here... just good fresh seafood. This is where the locals eat.
Steaks
Little Red Barn- San Antonio Family owned/operated. This guy's got
a gold mine! AWESOME Steaks!
Love & War in Texas - AWESOME menu.. from wild boar quesadillas, to antelope.. YUM!
Books about Texas
Hill Country - by Janice Woods Windle. A story about 2 Texas families, and the birth of political aspirations of 2 women, Rebekah Baines Johnson & Laura Hoge Woods.
Movies About Texas
Lonesome Dove - Actually a made for TV miniseries
- but still the greatest Western ever filmed. Robert Duvall and Tommy Lee Jones
as retired Texas Ranger Captains Gus McCrae and Woodrow Call
play the roles of their lifetimes.
Giant - Movie adaptation of Edna Ferber's classic novel about Texas power and pride. James Dean's greatest (and last ) performance. Also good portrayals by Elizabeth Taylor, and Rock Hudson.
