@ The Lone Star Cafe & Club

This Event was fun while it lasted.. but no more will it be.

(Turn out the lights.. the party's over...)

9-13 Jay Johnson, Terry Rasnor & Scott Fant (oh-my!)

For those of you that have NOT yet been to an installment of the Rockzilla.net singer/songwriter showcase, the best way to describe it is this:  A mix of really good artists with different styles singing together.  This was the first event that I've been to since the WTC disaster, and I must say that this particular installment of the singer/songwriter showcase was JUST what the Dr. ordered!  This week's show included the likes of Jay Johnson, Terry Rasnor & Scott Fant.

Lone Star favorite, Jay Johnson is always a treat to hear perform, and he's no stranger to the showcase either, having played it several times before, he's also one  HELL of a guy!  Jay sang all of  my favorites off of his "Images" CD.  The 2 songs that were the most memorable  that he did were "In The Flash Of The Storm" and "Perfect Villain."  I got goosebumps from that.. and all I  can say is... wow....

Now I have heard of Terry Rasnor, but never had an opportunity to see him perform.  After watching him play, it definitely was worth waiting for.  It was a treat for me to finally get to hear him.  His unique "Biker country" style is not to be missed.  This guy's got a DAMN good voice!

Now Scott Fant is also one hell of a nice guy, and also an awesome singer.  I had never heard of  him until Thursday.. and I'm REALLY glad I made it out to see him play!  I walked away Thursday night with 2 NEW favorite artists for the Beer Bytch page.  For those of y'all that weren't there, you missed a damn good show, and a Beer Bytch approved performance, at that.  Make it a point to attend.. ya never know when yer gonna miss a good show.

This installment of the Rockzilla.net singer/songwriter night has been Beer Bytch approved.

9-20 The Lucky Pierres

The Lucky Pierres played the September 20th installment of the Rockzilla.net  singer/songwriter showcase.  Here is a band that can harmonize well.  Lead singer Michele Pittenger has a powerful voice, no doubt about it, this chick can sing!  Michele has a style very similar to that of Patsy Cline, and it works well for her.

The Lucky Pierres sound resembles a "closet bluegrass band" at its best, but with a harder edge.  Their almost hypnotic sound is easy to get lost in.  After a slow start, they got in the swing of things with faster, more upbeat music, a few covers, and some great original material.

If you came to a bar to drink and hear a band that blends in non-obtrusively with the conversation you're having with the guy or gal next to you.. then this band is for you.  If you came to be totally knocked off your barstool, smiling, singin' along, and tappin' your foot, ya best wait til NEXT Thursday.  While this band DIDN'T suck, this Beer Bytch was only semi-impressed.  See them for yourself at the great State Fair of Texas, visit their webpage, and form your OWN opinion.

9-27 Jay & "Not So Silent Bob" Strike back, Joining forces with the ORIGINAL BB (Brian Burns)

(MY apologies to Jason Mews and Kevin Smith AKA Jay & bob for butchering the title to their movie "Jay & Bob Strike Back")

The final installation of the Rockzilla.net singer/songwriter showcase was just phenomenal!!  This Week's event featured the likes of Bob Williford AKA Zin Bubba , Jay Johnson & Brian Burns.  All three of these  guys make for an awesome evening!  Seeing  these guys perform separately is a treat in itself.  Mike, ya  done did good this time around!

By request, Brian Burns, the mighty BB sung his "Texas Trilogy." Hats went off and I guarandamntee that it was hard to find a dry eye in the house afterwards.  As always, Brian burns shines bright.  His new material he tried out was also of the high caliber we've come to associate with BB.  I for one can't wait til I get my hands on a copy when its done!

Zin Bubba also indulged his fans requests with his famous "piss off and die song" as I call it,  better known as "How Do You Like Me Now?" NOT to be confused with The Toby Keith version  by the same name.  Zin Bubba always puts on a damn good show, although I did miss Ritchie Varnell's harmony on "I  Don't Do Lonely Very Well."  You can also see Zin Bubba & Ritchie Varnell every Monday night at Lone Star Cafe.

Last, but definitely not least was featured artist, Jay Johnson.  Always a great performance  from him, Jay sang "Perfect Villain" and once again, I got goose bumps.  As I've mentioned in previous reviews for Jay, that song has more meaning to me after the Sept 11th attacks.  Give it a listen.  If you've NOT heard his new CD, "Images" get a copy NOW! You will not  be disappointed.

and Jay.. much as you  try.. you could NEVER be Bytch slapped.. SO THERE! :P

THE BEER BYTCH has spoken.. this stellar  performance has been Beer Bytch approved for your listening and viewing pleasure.
