The show opened up with the house band, Rex Neily & Downtown Junior.  They were a very professional cover band, especially since that night Rex Neily was standing in for the regular lead singer for the band.  Rex has a great voice, and mastered the covers wonderfully, and blended nicely with the harmonies the band offered up.  Kelly Walker, lead guitarist set foots a stompin with their faster version of Gary Stewart’s “An Empty Glass.”  All in all, they were actually better than expected for a cover band, maybe one day they will have some originals.

The party REALLY got started when Kevin Fowler took the stage.  What can I say, this band gets tighter each time I see them play!  These guys are a serious party happenin' onstage that flows out and draws everyone in!  Everyone sings along with Kevin, and the crowd response was absolutely killer!   He really knows how to work a crowd.

The music was a great mix of old favorites like his standard, “Beer Bait and Ammo”  (Watch out, Kevin, you’ll end up having something in common with Ray Wylie Hubbard, a timeless sing along song,) to his kickin' new song, the title cut off his new CD “Loose, LOUD & Crazy."  There’s also a crowd rousing, new redneck anthem called, “I Ain’t Drinkin Anymore” which is what the Beer Bytch says everytime I go drinkin, to one of Kevin’s obvious favorites “The Lord Loves a Drinkin Man.”

You’ll end up hoarse from singin along, and sore from dancing.   Don’t think that Kevin just has drunken Redneck anthems, he also does a damn good love song.  “A Matter of When” and “Hard Man to Love” off the new CD can either make you cry in your beer or slow dance across the floor.  (A tip of the BB flashy hat and a thanks to Kevin for the nod during the great song “Don’t Touch my Willie." You know my dirty mind too well!)

This band really enjoys working together, and it shows, from the way the band comes together with Bobby Flores on the fiddle for their version of “The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” and John Carroll's wailing on the guitar during their rendition of Steve Earle’s “Copperhead Road” to Dan Dreeben’s rock & roll drum solo during the finale.  These guys have great chemistry & showcase each other’s skills, and have a blast doing it.

As always, Kevin Fowler is STILL Beer Bytch approved.  Pick up a copy of his New CD, “Loose, LOUD & Crazy” (see REVIEW) and go see him live. You won’t be disappointed.  Visit Kevin’s website and merchandise page for more info on where he will be playing next.
